The new Samsung model was launched last month and unfortunately for Apple, judging by the sales numbers it has already accrued, it is going to be the handset that the iPhone will need to beat.
And to make matters worse, Samsung themselves are confident that they now have the main handset to have..they have even started mocking the Apple handsets in their latest advert.
They now label the iPhone as a phone of the past.. a handset for the older generation!
The S4 was only launched on the 26th of April, but with only 4 days of the month remaining it still became the 3rd biggest selling handset of the month in the UK. The only blessing for Apple at the moment is that 1st and 2nd place for the month of April were occupied by the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 4s.
So what are Apple going to do to counter act this?
Apple's annual WWDC (worlwide developers conference) which is planned for next month (10-14 June
in San Francisco, for which tickets sold out in a record 2 minutes!!!), will provide a much clearer picture, but until then people can only speculate..and going by the speculation it is believed that possible upgrades we can expect are:-
*iOS 7 with gimmicks such as passbook
*Upgraded and improved Siri integration
*Vastly improved Google maps
*Improved camera – this will have to be done to improve on the gimmicks that have been introduced with models such as the HTC one and S4..expect one in the region of 12MP
*More Ram and the introduction of NFC technology is now something that is almost a must..
But, with it being said that the handset will remain the same size as the current 5, will this be enough to make people trade in their old iPhones? And will it be enough to stop people trading in to the bigger handsets such as the S4 or HTC one’s??
Looking at the news and current rumors that are focusing on the future of the iPhones, it is believed that the size of the handset will increase, but not until the iPhone 6 or maybe not until the iPhone 7 are introduced in 2-3 years.
With these models groundbreaking technology will be introduced along with new designs, this can be verified by browsing the patents that Apple have been filing over the past few months…but again, will this be too late?
Are Apple in danger of losing the majority of the loyal fans to the bigger handsets that get introduced between now and then????
As for a budget handset being introduced along with a 5s, this concept has been laughed at by Apple officials, and although it is believed that it would be great business sense to have a cheap iPhone, thus giving them a massive sales opportunity in countries such as India and China, Apple are not seen as ones who would not lower the quality range of the flagship handsets for a quick buck. A vast lowering of price for the iPhone 3GS and 4 is possible though...
In the interim, check out this concept idea that is currently doing the rounds. The fact that it already had in excess of 4 million hits on google, shows that people are definitely interested in what Apple has in store.
This one for the iPhone 6 would certainly be the type of handset that would scare Samsung, and with the patent for the projector in the pipeline it is not necessarily a concept that could be too far from the truth…
